It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle, Andrew Peter Korczak, on October 7, 2026. Andrew was born on January 22, 1981, in Edmonton, Alberta, at Misericordia Hospital and grew up in Calgary, where he attended St. Michael’s Elementary/Jr High School, followed by St. Mary’s High School. As a child, Andrew could always be found outdoors exploring, fishing, or simply surrounded by the animals he adored. From the moment he could walk, he carried a deep love and passion for all creatures, a connection that shaped his life and brought him joy, purpose, and companionship.
During his years at St. Mary’s, Andrew proudly played football, forming friendships and memories that stayed with him throughout his life. One of his most cherished experiences was traveling with his team to California, an adventure filled with excitement, pride, and the sense of belonging that came from being part of something bigger than himself.
For the past 22 years, Andrew made his home in Cochrane, a place that suited his love of nature, quiet moments, and the outdoors. He especially treasured the times spent snowboarding/skiing in the mountains with his sister, which were days filled with laughter, shared adventure, and the kind of memories that stay warm forever.
Andrew was an avid fisherman who found peace and calmness on the water. He also loved his family with a depth and devotion that was felt in every part of who he was. One of Andrew’s proudest moments was becoming an uncle. The day his niece was born, he was among the very first to hold her, a memory he treasured deeply. His heart was gentle, his love was intense and wholehearted, and losing him has left a hole in all of our hearts that will never truly be filled.
Andrew is survived by his loving parents, Marcia and Stan Korczak; his sister Leanne (John); his cherished niece Chantelle; and his beloved animals Nikita, Tonka, Alex, and Sylvester, who were truly part of his family.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Lilian and Cyril Dupe; his paternal grandparents, Julia and Stephen Korczak; and his beloved pets — his three dogs Vegas, Mischa, and Roxy, and his cherished cat Smokey — all of whom brought him years of companionship, comfort, and unconditional love.
Andrew’s spirit was soft, kind, and deeply loyal. He loved fully, he cared fiercely, and he leaves behind a legacy of compassion, tenderness, and quiet strength. His absence is felt in every corner of our lives, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Andrew, we will carry you with us for the rest of our lives. You were our gentle soul, our steady heart, and our constant reminder of how deeply a person can love. We feel you in the quiet moments, in the mountains you loved, in the animals who adored you, and in every memory that now means even more than it ever did before.
Thank you for the laughter, the compassion, the learning experiences and the way you loved us so completely. Thank you for being our son, our brother, our uncle, and our friend. The hole you leave behind is immeasurable, but so is the love you gave us.
We will honour you in the way you lived — with kindness, compassion, and a heart open to the world. You will forever be a part of us, and we will miss you for all our days.
We love you, Andrew. Always.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation in Andrew's name.
