Barbara Jenefer Campbell, née Sheane, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at South Health Campus in Calgary, Alberta, following a brief illness. Born on May 10, 1948, in Calgary, Barbara lived a life marked by independence, compassion, and dedication to her faith and community.
A proud graduate of Nursing school in Toronto, Ontario, Barbara devoted much of her life to caring for others—an instinct that never waned. Among her many cherished roles was being affectionately known by friends as the "Driving Miss Daisy" lady, a testament to her willingness to selflessly assist others by chauffeuring them to appointments. To family and close friends, she was lovingly called Aunt BJ.
Barbara’s personality was defined by her strong independence and a steadfast refusal to conform to modern technology, as she chose to live her life without a cell phone or computer. She found joy in simple pleasures such as reading, assembling jigsaw puzzles, challenging herself with Sudoku, attending performances at Rosebud Theatre, and indulging her love of good food.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was deeply involved in seniors groups at both First Assembly Church and First Alliance Church in Calgary, reinforcing her commitment to community and spiritual enrichment.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Robert Douglas Sheane of Calgary, Alberta; her niece, Jennifer Berryman, and Jennifer’s husband, Kerry, of Cremona, Alberta; her cousins Margaret Macauley and May Macauley of Sylvan Lake, Alberta; and extended family, Dawn Morris, her husband Phil, and their two boys Cole and Rhys all of Okotoks. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Grace and Lawrence Sheane, and her cousins Doug and Jack Macauley.
A private family burial will be held at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery. Plans for a memorial service are underway, scheduled for mid-August at First Assembly Church in Calgary, where those whose lives were touched by Barbara can gather to honor her memory and legacy. Details will be shared here in the coming weeks.
Barbara Jenefer Campbell’s life was one of quiet strength, heartfelt service, and unwavering faith. Her gentle spirit and enduring kindness remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
