Frans Anthonie Slikker

 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of Frans Anthonie Slikker on July 26, 2025.

Frans was born on July 16, 1958, in Haarlem, Netherlands, to Cornelia Baarslag and Frans Slikker. He had a great childhood growing up in Santpoort with his three sisters: Berna, Tine, and Joke. Between his dedication to work and helping others, he met his wife, Baudina, at the office. They later married and moved to Saudi Arabia, where he worked on various large projects that he was always proud of. They soon welcomed their first daughter, Fréderique, into the world. After three years, they returned to the Netherlands, where their family continued to grow, welcoming daughters Béliana and Darya.

Frans loved to travel and be outdoors, which is exactly what he did with his family. Yearly ski trips to Austria in the winter, Easter family camping trips, and summer holidays throughout Europe. In 2006, Frans moved with his family to Canada and began a new life on an acreage outside of Cochrane, where he loved to work on the house, yard, and barn. He renovated the entire first floor, the basement, and his latest (and probably most proudest) was the front deck to the house. Between his dedication to work, his family, and renovations, Frans found joy in hiking and biking, which he often did with family or friends.

Frans will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his mentoring, his fantastic sense of humour, and his passion for life. He had the remarkable ability to find joy in every moment. Frans leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and genuine connection that lives on in every person he encountered.

Frans will be dearly missed by his family: Baudina (wife of 33 years), his daughters, Fréderique (partner Brandon), Béliana (partner Shea), and Darya; and his beloved granddaughter, Adeline. As well as his sisters, extended family, and countless coworkers and friends.

A ceremony, followed by a small reception to remember Frans, will be held on August 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Country Hills Crematorium & Funeral Services (11995 16 St NE, Calgary). The service will be live streamed.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Frans’ honour may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, which he often donated to himself. The family also asks to share any memories or a story on how you met Frans on cochranecountryfuneral.ca or to baudinaslikker@yahoo.ca.
