It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our mom and nana on April 11, 2026. Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength. She was a proud, determined, and independent woman who spent her final days surrounded by family.

Barbara was born on January 11, 1935, and grew up in West Derby, England. She often spoke fondly of her childhood memories and friendships, many of which she maintained throughout her life. Barbara also deeply valued her connection with her Irish relatives. While she was always proud of her English roots, she was immensely grateful for the life she and John built together in Canada.

Barbara will be deeply missed by her three children: Richard, Timothy (Krista), and Judith. She also leaves behind six loving grandchildren—Jessica (Jeff), Curtis, Liam (Aarti), Michael, Liam, and Ashlyn—and one special great-grandson, John. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Rebecca, her daughter-in-law Carole, and her beloved husband, John.

Barbara and John were fortunate to share 57 wonderful years of marriage. Their story began in a hospital, where Barbara worked as a nurse and John as a doctor. Together, they built a true lifelong partnership, which included emigrating to Canada in 1969. This move reflected their shared love of the outdoors and adventure, as they relocated their young family to Peace River. In 1973, Calgary became their new home, followed by a move to Springbank in 1978. They cherished their years on the acreage, surrounded by an assortment of animals and countless precious memories. Their final move was back to Calgary in 2012, when John’s health began to decline. We feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed such a strong and loving marriage built on teamwork, compromise, friendship, trust, and devotion.

Barbara returned to work once her children were in high school and spent many years at Sears, where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. After retiring, she spent many happy hours at the Cochrane golf course, where she inspired John’s passion for the game. After his passing, she continued to golf regularly with friends and family. In August, Barbara was thrilled to participate in the family’s annual golf tournament. It feels especially fitting that she passed away while the Masters Tournament was on television.

Barbara was a voracious reader who enjoyed keeping up with current events. In addition to golf and reading, she had a lifelong love of Scottish country dancing, which she continued well into her late 80s. She especially loved when family joined her, leaving us all impressed by her skill and grace on the dance floor. Through dancing, she formed many meaningful and lasting friendships that she treasured deeply.

Barbara exemplified the importance of standing by one’s convictions and the value of family. She showed us the true meaning of commitment, loyalty, dedication, and love. While we will miss her deeply, the many happy memories we shared will remain with us always.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, no service will be held. Her family will celebrate her life in the mountains.
