Margaret Lorraine
Reed
January 8, 1933 – April 4, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret. Margaret passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026 after a brief illness with her daughters by her side.
Mom was deeply proud of her Irish heritage and part of her childhood was living in Ireland for about ten years.
Margaret met her husband, Don, while working at the Bank of Nova Scotia. Together, they raised their daughters, Keeran and Kelly. When Don and Margaret’s daughters were born, Margaret made the decision to stay at home and focus on raising her family, a role she cherished and took immense pride in.
Don’s work in the bank took the family across Canada. From the west coast to the east coast and everywhere in-between. When Don retired they settled in Cochrane and called it home for 30 years.
Margaret was a very good speed skater in her day. She enjoyed golfing and took great pride in her ability to rate golf courses. She loved spending time on the green. She also loved playing bridge. Her competitive spirit and sharp mind shone through in her love of both golf and bridge. Quilting was another passion of hers, and she created beautiful works that will be remembered and treasured. Throughout her life, she was also very involved with her church, forming meaningful connections with her church community.
She had a deep love for politics and enjoyed engaging in healthy banter that sparked lively debates. Whether at the dinner table, or with family and friends, she was always ready to share her opinions and exchange ideas, bringing her own unique perspective to any conversation.
Margaret adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they brought her much happiness.
She leaves behind her daughters Keeran (Ian) and Kelly (Tony), her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and friends who will miss her.
A graveside service will be held at the Cochrane Cemetery on Friday, April 17th at 1:00 p.m. Following the service, relatives and friends are invited to join the family for refreshments, snacks, and a time of remembrance. Details will be shared at the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to War Amps, a cause close to Margaret’s heart.
