Richard passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Center on Wednesday, June 3. Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Richard was raised in Halifax County. He was known for his music, his jokes, sense of humor, and penchant for getting into mischief. The brakes were put on suddenly when he had a near fatal motorcycle accident, resulting in traumatic brain injury. Slowly and courageously, and with the unwavering support of his family, he rebuilt his life. Looking for new adventures, he moved out to BC, and studied at Cariboo College in Kamloops to become a sheet metal journeyman. While at Cariboo, he met a fellow student who was studying stenography, and a mutual professor suggested they get to know each other better. They did just that, and on February 7th, 1977, Richard became husband to Julia and stepfather to her two daughters. They enjoyed 49 years of marriage, moving to Airdrie, Alberta, then to the Okanagan for their retirement years. Finally in 2018, they moved to Cochrane to be closer to family. Richard spent his last years in the care of Points West in Cochrane, Sage Hill in Calgary, and the Bethany Care Center in Cochrane, where he received excellent care. We will never forget the staff member at Points West who bought him a guitar one Christmas! We are also grateful to the staff at Bethany who sang with him, encouraged him, and strove to make his last years among his best years.

A family service will be held at a later date.
