Sean Carlton Fontaine

Sean Carlton Fontaine, a beloved member of the community and a dedicated public servant, passed away at home in Cochrane, Alberta, on August 5, 2025, at the age of 54. Born on September 4, 1970, in Calgary, Alberta, Sean's life journey was marked by a commitment to service, both in his professional career and personal endeavors.

A proud graduate, Sean earned his Master's in Political Science/Public Policy from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/History from the University of Calgary. His education laid the foundation for a career that would see him as a strategist for Calgary Transit from 2024 until his untimely passing, and previously as a strategist for the Calgary Police Service from 2022 to 2024. Sean's earlier career in the oil and gas industry was distinguished, but it was his role in serving the City of Calgary that brought him immense fulfillment.

Sean was passionate about engaging in politics, often expressing his views with vigor and purpose. He found joy in lively discussions that sparked understanding and cooperation amongst varied perspectives.

Alongside his professional accomplishments, Sean greatly cherished his family and personal pursuits. He is survived by his girlfriend, Lisa, and their shared enthusiasm for activities such as skiing and biking. Additionally, he is the proud father of three children: Parke, Hayden, and Ava. Sean’s love for travel was evident in his cherished trips to Hawai'i with his family. His interests also included motorcycling, swimming, playing guitar, and indulging in his passion for history and music.

He is mourned by his mother Janice and step-father Roy Crowther, along with his father Cam and step-mother Linda Fontaine. He leaves behind his brother Wade, and the family grieves the loss of Chad, Sean’s brother, who predeceased him.

Sean's contributions to the community, his commitment to public service, and his infectious zest for life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. A funeral service will be held in his honor on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Cochrane, AB, beginning at 1:00 PM and concluding at 2:00 PM. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and a call to debate the matters of the world with a good heart.
