William Gerald (Gerry) Meggeson

My Dad, William Gerald (Gerry) Meggeson was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to George and Millie Meggeson. He was the fifth and last child with one brother and three sisters. He held the position as last remaining member of a generation for our extended family…I was reminded recently that we are now the next generation. He was predeceased by his wife Janet (2014), grandson Landan (2015), great-grandson Levi (2016) and daughter Sheryl (2024). He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Debbie Fenton (Alan), his grandchildren Karla McLearn (Mark) and Mike Fenton (Jillian) and his great-grandsons Jackson (9), Axel (8), Tucker (8) and Ripley (4). 

Dad’s work kept him travelling many miles over his career with Standard Brands, Nabisco Brands and Fleischmann’s…each company an evolution of the last. He was very proud of his position as Western Canada Sales Manager and treated each and every client as the most important one. Although, he was not always happy to be away so much, he made schedule changes as necessary to take in all the important moments of our lives and knew Mom had a good rein on us growing up. 

Dad was a member of Citizen’s on Patrol for the Town of Cochrane, a partner in a Maine Anjou cattle endeavour which he loved and a partner in Prestige Security which kept him busy locally. In later years he enjoyed his monthly outings with his retired COP associates where they rehashed the goings on of all things current at a number of local coffee shops and venues. His phone calls with Doug were a daily highlight and looked forward to keeping in touch with past business colleagues and his many visits with nieces and nephews when they passed through Cochrane. He enjoyed keeping his yard, lawn and flowers, looking just right and being outside to converse with whoever might be coming up the street. He certainly kept up on everything around him. 

Dad loved all time spent with family and, in particular, with his great-grandsons whether it was outing for a meal, sitting while they “played” for him on his organ or a fun filled evening on the “bus” travelling Cochrane to see the Christmas lights. We will all miss these events and I will miss our outings…appointments, meals, shopping, chats or just a nice drive. I expect Dad will continue to “ride” with me as does Mom. 

Forever in our hearts, until we meet again. 

There will be no funeral with a family gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cochrane Humane Society.
